We’re killing cancer.

We heard you again. People asked for the “Homosexuality… Choice” T-shirt, and we made it. Then just a few of you bought it and many more of you hated it.

We think the shirt is funny, but angering some of our core audience is not as funny.

While we will continue to offend some in our episodes, we didn’t intend to cause pain with our products.

So we’ve killed the T-Shirt. We want the focus to be on our show and not some stupid shirt.

Now let the comments roll in on how we’re placating nancy boys.

You guys are placating nancy boys!

  2. 2 Richard

I so want one of those shirts. You are placating Nancy boys and even Hardy girls!

If you don’t test the limit then you’ll never know what the limit is.

As long as you keep your ultimate goal in mind, everything else is wrapping. Still, I have to give you credit: that’s a darn funny line.

f*** the haters, that shirt was hilarious

  6. 6 Rpm2004

The only people who could possibly find that shirt offensive are the ones who didn\’t understand it.

  7. 7 Marrz

I agree with Rpm2004, I understand your reasons but think the people who complained must have either not understand what it was playing at or believe contrary.

One thing’s for sure, ya got people talkin’. And some of them had interesting things to say. So, regardless, ya done good.

I have a friend named Nancy who giggles whenever she hears the phrase “Nancy Boys”. She’s weird in other ways too.

I was in Queer Nation during its heyday in the 90s. We created all sorts of art, shirts and stickers that provoked people and challenged stereotypes (slogans like “We Recruit” that played on the hysteria that gays were recruiting kids into “the homosexual lifestyle; “Jesus Wouldn’t Care” - pretty obvious message there; “I *heart* Sodomy” etc.).

In fact, right now I’m wearing a shirt depicting Jesus getting a blowjob from a hot guy. I was able to make/sell a few on Cafe Press before it was banned.

So I’m all for the confrontational/edgy stuff.

If I had wanted to make a shirt addressing the “choice” issue, I would’ve gone the *other* direction; made a shirt that said something like “I Choose Gay! *smiley face*”. Something that works whether you feel homosexuality is a choice or not (for people who don’t think it’s a choice, it’s ironic - if you do think it’s a choice and you beleive it’s a *good* choice, it’s actually reaffirming).

The “cancer” shirts, though, kind of reminded me of those ‘Love Sees No Colour” shirts that were popular some time ago. Well-meaning but not *quite* the message you might want to send (”I don’t think of you as *any* colour, and that’s why I love you!”. oops, try again).

    Kelev,

What you have to say is interesting, but chill out with the * every five minutes. *It’s* really *hard* to *read* when *you* are *interrupted* by *asterisks* every *other* word************.

Also, I agree that the shirts are awesome and anyone who thinks they aren’t just doesn’t get the joke.

    Th*at’s fun*ny, I didn*t e*ven not*ice th*e ast*erisks unti*l G*rac*e po*inted t*hem ou*t.

I like asterisks. I’m an asterik-ophile. Nothing I like more than a hot, tight little asterisk.

    I also have a foot-note fetish…

Hey, I just stumbled on this neat podcast due to the “gasp” scandalous tex sex-ed podcast episode of the “morning show” on Fox…. and found the videos (#10 Dating & #9 Halloween) hilarious!

So what’s all this about a gay t-shirt being killed?

Where can I see an image of this shirt so I can judge for myself?

  14. 14 Les Zaldor

Wow - surprised to see your show as a target for a Fox local news show! But no publicity is bad publicity! Been checking out the show since I met ya at the expo, great work - keep it up!

As someone who watched his mother waste away and slowly die from Lung Cancer over a horrible year I think the shirts were HILARIOUS.

You never offended me and if my mom were alive today I’d have bought her one. With her sense of humor (which kept her going throughout her treatment) she would have loved it.

You’re doing great work here folks, be bold.

As a confirmed Nancy Boy, please can you make the tee available again. Preferably in puce, although violet would match my new heels.

I’ve also been a gay activist for 25 years, but my beard might not get the joke, so please can you send it in a plain brown wrapper, so she thinks it’s just porn.

    Great work, folks :)

I love qbc things. As a qbc member.

Not going to scroll up and find who said it, but I would like to quietly vote in favor of an “I Choose Gay” shirt to replace the homos and cancer one. The homos and cancer one was funny until I felt bad about thinking it was funny. The choose gay one I’d feel good about, even if I might not wear it in, ah, mixed company. (And being bi I especially get a kick out of it, considering I “choose” gay about half the time)

    MMmmmmmmm, footnotes… *dreams*

Kelev, did you save any of those t-shirts? Or could I borrow yours? ;-)

  21. 21 Nimby

The problem with the “I Choose Gay” shirt is that heterosexuals might not feel that they could support that as much, you guys. ^_^

  22. 22 Liquorice Ewe

Could someone explain to me what was so offensive about the shirt?

  23. 23 UbiquitousChe

The shirt itself isn’t offensive. At least, I didn’t think it was.

It’s just that when someone has lost a loved one to a disease, part of the grieving process involves a total lack of a sense of humour about that disease. I don’t think that makes the shirt insulting or any less funny, and I don’t think it was a good enough reason to pull the shirt… But I can understand why someone might disagree with me.

Alternatively, people may not have seen the point and actually thought that the shirt was saying something insulting about homosexuals. And one of the unfortunate things about idiots is that they’re dumb enough to be vocal about the fact that they’re idiots.

  24. 24 Lenna

Apparently I’m not the only one who tells jokes that sounded awesome in my head and then just made people look at me weird and laugh nervously.

Matt already said something about the great conversation the shirt generated, but I wanted to add the words of the immortal Frizz: “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!”
If no one ever said anything controversial, we’d still think the earth is flat and that socialism is a bad idea (well I can dream)

Kelev, I seriously can’t see asterisks properly anymore. I giggle helplessly every time someone emphasizes something :)
