Mail Bag- A great email

This is an email I just got today that I wanted to share with everyone.

Subject: Note Left On Our Computer

Dear [15-year old daughter]:
You have my permission to download Midwest Teen Sex Show podcasts from iTunes. Enjoy! -Mom
(Recycle after reading. Condoms in the bathroom. Don’t worry - I’ll never mention it again if you don’t bring it up first.)

I really wish my parents would give me a note like this.

    ^ Idem.

But that would be kinda creepy, though.

The “condoms in the bathroom” part seems a bit drastical for a kid thats still insecure about sex. But I wouldn’t know how to put it better..

just wanted to say… i do like the site and all the episodes and info… but i don’t know if it’s necessarily a good idea for parents to not talk to their kids about sex, and instead just tell them to watch mwtss. obviously, its better than nothing, but far from ideal. anyways, keep up the good work, im looking forward to the next episode.

I practically got this note already. From dad. Not the condom part, but he downloaded MTSS and Sex is Fun for me.

I wonder how many parents have suggested MTSS to their kids. And how many kids have listened?

All I can tell you is that at least one kid (me) has ignored their father’s request to stop watching the show.

It would be pretty sweet to have parents who don’t think non-alarmist messages about sex will instantly make you fly off the handle and screw everyone in sight. On the other hand… I don’t want to be told where they keep their condoms.

    (…Behind the latex gloves. *headdesk*)

If this had been around when I was a teen (assuming my mom knew about it), she most likely would have told me to watch it. And then had a discussion about it (shudder). Having a mom like that means that now, after losing my virginity nine years ago, I have never had an STD and never gotten pregnant. If I ever have any questions, I know I can call her (and I have). I also enjoy sending her and receiving from her emails containing items like the Balloon-Animal Condom Commercial and the Oslo Gay Festival. So, for any parents who still have qualms about educating your kids on sex, please realize that the open lines of communication you establish now will continue throughout their lives.

I suggested MTSS to both of my younger brothers (12 & 14).
They can have the excuse that this is funny, and still get educated about sex, and get answers that the school nurse would never tell them :)
