As far as crazy sex ed goes, in 8th grade we had people from “Creating Positive Relationships” come talk to us. One lady told us that the FDA went to the condom companies and said “It’s OK if, like, 10, out of 100 of your condoms have holes in them” Then they would keep bringing it up if any kid mentioned condoms. “How do you know you don’t have one of the condoms with a hole in it?”
Then in high school they treated sex ed like learning about the bones in the body. Here’s some graphic pictures of all the diseases, here’s a video of a baby being born, memorize the names of STDs, don’t have sex till you’re married, quiz on Monday then we’re moving on respiratory diseases. Our health teacher also said she hoped non of the girls in the class would need Gardasil.
Huh. Studies say a lot of things. In fact, there was one that linked video games to breastfeeding one’s spawn.

Sex Ed: Glad I’m in California.

Your ripped up paper heart is beautiful. don’t let anyone else tell you any differently.
I went to High School in Austin, Tx. We had to go through that torn paper heart presentation too. we were also told that all people who had abortions had extreme emotional problems later in life. One presenter told us that there was no way to reduce the risk of an sti other than abstinence. It was a waste of my time spent in school. We had tests with questions like “what can you do on a date other than having sex?”
Trey, did you go to public high school? I did and can’t believe public school teaches/taught that. Even know, I think the perception is that public schools are dens of condoned sin and private schools are the ones teaching paper-heart sex ed.
yeah, i went to a public high school. Based off of my friend’s experiences with private school, it seems that the general perception is pretty backwards.
Larissa should totally do these more often
She rocks ^_^
I like seeing a change up of people on this show! I totally agree. She’s got charisma!
Aw, you guys are as sweet as the Shamrock Shake I will devour today before Neil Arsenty and I host the stuff out of tonight’s liveshow! Tune in right hurr tonight, 8 PM CST, for more hijinks involving sexual education and mythical creatures.
A shamrock shake!? Why it’s very name inspires deliciousness doesn’t it? Though by now it has been and gone, I do hope it treated you well Larissa.
So maybe I’m watching this WAY after the fact, but props to Larissa for a great hosting job. I laughed out loud several times AND learned a thing or two (while some of my teenage years are practically half a lifetime behind me now–scary!–you can always learn a thing or two more), and what more can you ask? And my two cents: I had AWESOME comprehensive sex ed in my public high school (being from the liberal Seattle area might have something to do with that) and I had NO idea how lucky I was at the time and to second Larissa, please do not expend too much energy on Prom! In my opinion, the only reason to go to formal dances in high school was because you’ll never get to wear dresses like that again, so dress shopping was the best bit. The dance itself? Booooooring.
